Firm founder Jim Hunt has practiced law in Montana since 1982. Jim received both his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Montana, in Missoula, Montana, and is licensed to practice law in all state courts in Montana, as well as the following federal courts: United States District Court for the District of Montana, and the United States Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit.

In addition to his full-time job as a Montana trial lawyer, Jim is a retired Lieutenant Colonel, having proudly served his country as a member of the Montana National Guard from 1973 to 1996. Having been a resident of Montana for his entire life, Jim is also deeply committed to his community, and is a member of the Montana Shakespeare Company as well as the Governor's Council on Traumatic Brain Injuries.

Jim's roots in the Montana community, however, extend well beyond his practice of law and local upbringing. He is the son of former Montana Supreme Court Justice William E. Hunt Sr., who retired from the bench in 2000. While the Hunt name is certainly well known in Montana legal circles, Jim does not practice law because of any deep-rooted family influence or expectations. Rather, he practices personal injury and wrongful death law in Montana simply because he cares. He cares about his family, his community, and his clients who have been affected by a serious injury or untimely death. Jim understands the importance of health and a bright future, and the devastating physical, emotional, and financial toll that a severe injury or catastrophic death can bring.

Personal Service And Peace Of Mind

At the Dix, Hunt & McDonald Law Firm, we believe that a successful personal injury lawyer must be a competent manager of client expectations. Every client has an expectation about a case, ranging from a desired result by way of a verdict or settlement to the frequency of communication with their lawyer. Managing client expectations is best accomplished by reaching a consensus between the lawyer and his or her client. At our firm, expectations are clear and the urgency, scope and complexity of the legal services to be provided is made clear at the initial consultation and throughout the course of a case. What that means is that we are always on the same page as our clients. In a nutshell, what happens at our law firm is that we listen to our clients to find out what they expect from us, and then meet those expectations.

Our attorneys are highly experienced and equipped to advise and represent clients in all personal injury and accident matters. We represent clients all types of personal injury, wrongful death, and related accident cases including Auto & Truck Accidents, Medical Malpractice, Brain Injuries, Slip & Fall Accidents, Construction Site Accidents, Work-Related Accidents, Semi-Truck Accidents, Dog Bites & Animal Attacks, Dangerous & Defective Products, Motorcycle Accidents, Premises Liability, Nursing Home Negligence & Elder Abuse. We do not represent businesses, corporations or insurance companies in Montana. We represent real people with real physical, emotional and financial problems caused by an injury or death.

No Fee Unless We Are Successful

Personal injury litigation is one of the few areas of the law where even the poor have equal access to justice. The reason for this is the contingent fee agreement. The fee a client pays ordinarily will be a percentage of the total amount of any recovery in their claim, whether by settlement, through mediation, or a jury verdict. The "contingent" aspect of the fee means that if our law firm is unsuccessful in obtaining a financial recovery, then there is no attorney fee. Whatever the case, we help real people in Montana with real problems caused by an injury or death, including traumatic brain injuries, burns, fractures, breaks, dislocations, neck injuries, back injuries, knee injuries, shoulder injuries, nerve injuries, paralysis, quadriplegia and spinal cord injuries.
